Elements Interior Design – Update of a quaint cottage in Wendover, Bucks

Brief : To prepare designs to update the principal rooms in a quaint cottage for a busy professional.

Designs were prepared for the sitting room, master and guest bedroom of this quaint Wendover cottage, incorporating colour and texture with there also being an emphasis on storage. The client specifically wanted to inject some life into his home with the use of colour to hark back to his roots, whilst maintaining a sense of cosiness. Storage was a big issue and bespoke cupboards were built to tie in with the finish of some existing pieces of furniture. Floor to ceiling cupboards provided valuable storage in what was previously a cluttered area, and as there was no space in the cottage for a separate office, one of the cupboards was designed to house the computer with a pull out keyboard shelf. When not in use the office space sits tidily behind doors. A glass coffee table incorporating a shelf provides a little more storage without eating into the visual space in the room. Seating was also severely limited in the sitting room so upholstered stools were made which neatly tuck under a console table, and which simply pull out when needed. Another chair was added that doubles up as an office chair, thus providing an extra three seats in total without impacting the overall space.
